"We shall subsequently see that great ideas formerly credited to the Greeks were undoubtedly of Mesopotamian origin, that Babylonian algebra was probably an influence in India as late as the twelfth century A.D., and that the western world did not contribute notably to the subject before the time of the Renaissance."
-- Edna Kramer, The Nature and Growth of Modern Mathematics
Why does no one really report history properly? Why do we not put value on history rather than putting value on fleeting commodities? I never understood this, and I feel with may be at the centre of my troubles.
I wish I knew how to say what was on my mind. Maybe one day.
One reason why I thought about this was because I just finished reading this book about Anthony Bourdain, where the people in his life contribute to describing how his life slowly became unstuck. People praise Anthony Bourdain, and they should. But one problem is that we never look past Anthony Bourdain to the people who are actually suffering in the places they bring their expensive camera equipment to to get their shots.
