Updates from the Middle East

It is difficult to know what is at the heart of surprising developments in the Middle East. First, there are reported to be unrelenting protests of hundreds of thousands of Israelis against the Netanyahu government's plans for major reforms. For example, the road to the airport was blocked and Benji had to get to the airport via helicopter in order to go on his latest foreign affairs excursion.

On the other hand, despite recent talk of a potential Israel-Saudi deal

suddenly, there is a "not so fast" reality check. On the one hand, there is the re-establishment of Saudi Arabia's ties with Iran with help from China

and a "steep" price for Israel via concessions from the United States:

These "include assistance in constructing a civilian nuclear program, fewer limits on US arms sales, and security assurances from the US" to say nothing of the ongoing Palestine situation.

What does it mean for geopolitics? The fact that China has brokered the Iran-Saudi deal may signal that more countries are turning away from what was previously an iron grip on global politics by Western countries, led by the United States. There is also the Ukraine-Russia situation, the US embassy move to Jerusalem, and other distractions to Jewish-Christian-Muslim relations as the Wrath of God war began in 1981 by Ronald Reagan continues on.
