I would always describe it as building a city in my mind, connecting everything I that I learned anew to a branch that already existed. I guess these are referred to as "memory palaces" using the "method of loci". Does that mean that people with stronger visual memory than verbal memory are more likely to enact the method of loci?
And, in accordance with an earlier question about the connection between memory or thought and the electrochemical switchboard, it's all about synapses.
Makes sense.
So what is the difference between a "thought" and a "memory"? That is, can it be said that "thoughts" are also about synapses? Does a thought exist if it cannot be retrieved?
On another note, that episode of mania / ecstatic seizure seems to have completely killed off the memory palace that was inspiring me to write.
