Taking a leaf out of Kant's Prolegomena and thinking about how school subjects are structured, what of the following:
Science / Math = a priori
Social / English = a posteriori
This suggests that there is something to study mathematically and scientifically without humans, whereas both social studies and English require specific human traits that we construct narratives about. In the same sense, however, we could substitute "essentialist" for a priori and "existentialist" for a posteriori as science / math is the domain of the building blocks for all that is biological (including humans) while social / English comes from the agency of humanity within its "thrown" condition.
In addition,
English / Math = synthetic
Social / Science = analytic
This suggests that English and mathematics are "constructive" whereas social and science are "deductive". That is, English and mathematics are disciplines that are created to establish narratives about social and scientific phenomena, while social and scientific phenomena are there to be deciphered.
Working from the Prolegomena (I admit it's been a looooong time... perhaps I should refresh myself), Kant wants to find a way to argue for humans to have "synthetic a priori" judgment, and he suggested that this would need to be similar to mathematics but would suggest that there is an essentialist noumenal component to humanity—a sort of zero-block from which to build. Karatani's notion of the will to architecture. Yes, I understand.
